Science is a process:

Science is the method of learning about the world. It constantly changes our understanding of the way the world works, and is not static.

Energy Conservation Underlies All Ecological Processes:

Energy cannot be created, it must come from somewhere. As it flows through a system, the useful amount of energy is reduced at each step.

Natural systems can change over space and time. Different biological systems have different abilities to recover from disturbances.

Humans Alter Natural Systems:

Humans have been altering and impacting the environment for millions of years. Technology and population growth have increased both the rate and scale of human impact on the environment.

Environmental Problems Have Social and Cultural Contexts:

Development of solutions to environmental problems requires an understanding of cultural, social, and economic factors.

Human Survival Depends on Developing Practices That Will Achieve Sustainable Systems:

Management of shared resources is essential, and a combination of development and conservation is needed.

Each of these topics are covered in the AP Environmental Science exam, in varying proportions.
